I have a Z visa and my child will enter china with L visa. Can I change the children visa to Z visa when they arrive? As my spouse is a Chinese citizen, does he need to have a foreign resident permit for my child to get a L or Z visa in China?
Firstly, you should change your z visa to resident permit (normally one year) when you arrive in China. if your child is under 18 years old, she/he can get the same resident permit(one year) as a kinsfolk. but you should provide the birth certificate. talking about your spouse ,He is chinese citizen, he don't need to handle chinese visa. but your child can also get L visa from your spouse if you hold an L visa when you come to China.
if you want to work legally , you should apply for Z visa ,and they change it to residence permit. for z visa ,you should find a company to be your sponsor, you can be employee or be your own boss. normally ,you can't change F visa to Z visa in China. you married with chinese person,if you hold an L visa ,you can extend your L visa for another six months as the spouse, but if you hold an F visa ,you can't get L visa as the spouse, you should go to another country and change it to L visa and come back .
From what I understand, if the father is a chinese citizen, the child with foreign passport should not obtain a visa but a “旅行证”because the child is regarded as a chinese citizen. But I would like my child to follow my citizenship until he turns 21years (then he can choose). How can my child proceed to getting a Z visa?
RE:I have a Z visa in my passport and a book called "外国人就业证“. Is this a resident permit? If not, can I apply one?
If you have a z visa and "外国人就业证", you should go to the Exit and Entry PSB to change z visa into resident permit,z visa and "resident permit" are different visa.

First ,you should check your child's nationality ,if he/she still have chinese citizenship, you don't need to handle visa for your child.because China don't admit to dual-nationality. if he/she has your nationality, you can apply resident permit through your redient permit(working visa),you should provide his/her birth certificate to handle it.
